Support FAQ Issue: The MechRC Commander software installation will not complete (Windows 7 / 64bit OS). Solution: Open this link. Then open the zip file (if it does not open automatically) and double click the mechrc.reg file inside it to add the required entries into the computer’s registry (click ‘yes’ when prompted). Then install the MechRC Commander Software installation package from the CD.
Issue: The USB dongle does not have an associated COM port available in the MechRC Commander software when plugged in. Solution: Download the latest version of the USB dongle driver installation file. Unplug the USB dongle and double click the setup file to install the latest drivers on the machine (following all on screen installation prompts). Plug in the USB dongle and restart the MechRC Commander software. Note: If prompted to 'Modify, repair, or remove the program' select 'Remove' (see here), click the 'next' button and follow the on screen propmts to remove the old drivers (see here). You MUST then run the setup program again and follow the on screen prompts to install the new drivers (see here and here).
Issue: I want to find or change the COM port number that the USB dongle uses. Solution: Plug in the USB dongle. Click the windows 'Start' button, right click on 'My Computer' (or 'Computer' in Windows 7) and click on 'Manage' (see here). In the Computer Management window click on 'Device Manager' in the left hand section, and then double click on 'Ports (COM & LPT)' in the right hand section. The 'Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port' should be listed with its COM port number (see here for an example with COM port number 17). If it is listed with a yellow '!' next to it and no COM port number is shown, or is listed under 'Other Devices' (see here) then follow the instructions above to install the driver software.
Issue: When I run the MechRC Commander software I get a 'Microsoft .NET Framework' error (see here) and if I click 'continue' I get white spaces in the MechRC Commander software where the robot image should be (see here). Solution: Click the windows 'Start' button and select 'Run'. In the 'Open' box type 'dxdiag' (without the ' ') (see here) and click 'OK'. If this program fails to open then you need to install DirectX on to the machine. If the program opens, click the 'Display' tab and then click the 'Test DirectDraw' button and follow the on screen prompts. When this test is complete click the 'Test Direct3D' button and follow the on screen prompts. If any of the tests fail then either the graphics card or the graphics card drivers do not support DirectX. To make sure the correct drivers are installed, click the windows 'Start' button, right click on 'My Computer' (or 'Computer' in Windows 7) and click on 'Manage' (see here). In the Computer Management window click on 'Device Manager' in the left hand section, and then double click on 'Display Adapters' in the right hand section. Right click on your display adapter, select 'properties' and then click on the 'Driver' tab. Use the 'Update Driver' button to install the latest version of your drivers. Note: you may have to download these manually from the graphics card manufacturer. Register your MechRC!
